#Once a Refugee, but now a missionary
About Clarkston
Clarkston has blessed us more than we have blessed Clarkston, so we want to mobilize former refugees to be there for newly arrived refugees with the love and message of Jesus Christ.
Clarkston used to be known as “Goatville” before its incorporation in 1882. It is located midway between Atlanta and Stone Mountain. In 1882, the Georgia General Assembly officially incorporated the area as the “Town of Clarkston,” named after P.R.G. Clark, a prominent attorney and landowner. The city covers an area of 1.1 square miles, with municipal limits extending a half-mile radius from the Georgia Railroad Depot.
Ethnic Diversity
Today, Clarkston is renowned for its ethnic diversity and is often referred to as “the most diverse square mile in America,” as well as the “Ellis Island of the South” and the “Refugee Settlement of the South.”
There are around 40 apartment complexes in Clarkston, and we are aiming to establish a presence in 14 of these complexes, which contain over 1,500 units. Most of the people who live there come here as refugees. Each unit is home to individuals who need to hear the Gospel, and the church has the opportunity to share it with them. Each group of buildings represents a field ripe for harvest, waiting for laborers to take action.
Clarkston has been receiving refugees since the 1970s, so why not more former refugees stay and welcome newly arrived refugees with the love and message of Jesus Christ?
The harvest is plentiful, but the workers are few.
– Luke 10:2

One of our biggest needs is for refugees to have friends. Do you have time to be a friend and share life with refugees?
We work closely with ethnic churches, and one of their biggest needs is a leader who is willing to lead Bible study for their youths. Will you help us start and lead Bible study?
In our apartment ministry, we offer homework help four days a week. Will you join us in helping newly arrived refugee families’ children with their homework in this new country and language?
This is one of our biggest needs. Refugees come here legally, and after they arrive, they can apply for citizenship in this great country within five years. Will you join us in helping refugees achieve their goal of becoming citizens?
We help individuals and families learn to read, write, and speak English. Do you speak English? If so, you can assist newly arrived refugees in their language learning journey.
Mentoring is essential for newly arrived refugees as they are unfamiliar with our country and the way of life here. They need support to help them navigate their new lives. We ask volunteers to visit these families once a week and assist them during their resettlement process in their new home.
Every Saturday, we have games and ESL classes with local churches to facilitate fellowship with our new neighbors through playing games and teaching ESL.
Each year, we provide over 800 school bags for elementary, middle, and high school students here in Clarkston. Will you join us?
We also engage in several other ministries as needed, including food distribution and rent assistance, specifically serving the community of Clarkston and its residents. We need your help to carry out these ministries and to mobilize, equip, and empower former refugees from ethnic churches in this compassion ministry.
